R4 · TWO-FITTING PROOFThe Metal Stays on the Fittings
Replaced projected circles with connected 3D surface masks. The two large loops are removed; this is a local repair, not a full-model cleanup.

Selected each protruding fitting as a connected set of mesh triangles, bounded by its 3D position and depth from the casting. Re-rasterized those surfaces into the existing UV atlas, restoring blue paint around them and retaining steel on the fittings.
Geometry, UVs, nodes and normal-map bytes are unchanged. Saved-map comparison found zero changed pixels outside the local repair mask and no changes to the packed R channel. R3 remains available as the before version.

Browser reflections differ from Cycles renders. Both viewer versions share the same lighting; the comparison is not a retouched still.

What This Fix Proves
The source of the loops was the projected material mask, not texture resolution. The 3D-based selection keeps the large fittings metallic while the surrounding casting stays blue from multiple views. Fine rim irregularities remain, and the smaller fittings and other regions still have defects from R3.
This is not automatic semantic part recognition. Two hand-located seeds, geometric limits and triangle connectivity define the masks; welded vertex IDs are used only for inspection across UV seams. The source mesh was not welded or re-exported.
Pixel and byte verification
Compared decoded saved PNGs, not just working buffers: 16,992 base-color pixels and 16,993 metallic/roughness pixels changed. Outside-mask changes: zero. Packed R changes: zero. The original geometry binary prefix, nodes, meshes and accessors are identical in the new GLB. The original normal image is embedded unchanged.
Base color uses sRGB; G roughness and B metallic use linear data. Roughness was corrected alongside the material class. No new UVs, geometry or original reference textures were used.
